Do you feel pain when sedated?
The short answer: No. You do not feel pain with sedation dentistry. Dentists use a combination of sedation and anesthetic to keep you relaxed and pain-free throughout your procedure.
Do you feel anything with IV sedation?
When IV sedation dentistry is performed properly, you will not feel pain and you will not remember any part of the procedure. That is the entire point of sedation at the dentist. Local anesthesia is necessary because the nerves in your mouth and teeth will still feel pain if Dr. Adams does not numb them.
Is conscious sedation safe?
Conscious sedation is usually safe. However, if you are given too much of the medicine, problems with your breathing may occur. A provider will be watching you during the whole procedure.
How long does sedation take to wear off?
Usually the sedative does not actually send you to sleep, but makes you feel sleepy. Also, you might not remember anything about the examination afterwards. These sedatives start to work very quickly but take hours to wear off (up to 24 hours).
