Genital Herpes Symptoms
You may feel itchy or tingly around your genitals.
This is usually followed by painful, small blisters that pop and leave sores that ooze or bleed.
Most people notice symptoms within a few weeks after they catch the virus from someone else.
What does a Herpe sore look like?
In oral herpes, most blisters appear on the lips or mouth. They can also form elsewhere on the face, especially around the chin and below the nose, or on the tongue. At first, the sores look similar to small bumps or pimples before developing into pus-filled blisters. These may be red, yellow or white.
What can be mistaken for herpes?
Contact Dermatitis Can Be Mistaken for Herpes
Contact dermatitis is a skin condition that can cause red, itchy, cracked, dry, or scaly skin, blisters, or a rash. Like herpes, it recurs, and while it’s not an STD, when it appears in the mouth or genital area, it may be mistaken for herpes.
How bad does herpes hurt?
Some people experience very mild genital herpes symptoms or no symptoms at all. Frequently, people infected with the virus don’t even know they have it. However, when it causes symptoms, it can be described as extremely painful. The blisters themselves can also be painful.
How long do herpes sores last?
As a general rule, the first ever herpes outbreak tends to be the most severe. In some cases, it can take 2 – 3 weeks to heal completely. Subsequent outbreaks are usually less severe and pass within a few days.
